Rehearsals: Tuesday nights 7.30-9.30pm

What is Concert Band?

The GK’s Concert Band is our flagship group for more advanced musicians of all ages with previous experience in a wind ensemble.

Rehearsals focus on ensemble work, building skills in musicianship, and preparation for competitions, concerts and performances in the community.

Concert Band repertoire includes classical, jazz, marches, and modern arrangements of film and stage music, with pieces spanning Tchaikovsky and Frank Tichelli to Andrew Lloyd Webber and Pixar’s Despicable Me.

But Concert Band isn’t the only option for musicians, with many of our members also joining Marching Band, Stage Band, or providing mentorship to Explorer Band players.

Is Concert Band right for me?

If you have a few years’ experience playing your instrument and in an ensemble, and you can comfortably sight read, Concert Band could be a great fit.

As a guide, the difficulty of most instrumental parts is equivalent to AMEB grade 6 or higher, and the band competes at grade B or C at national and state competitions.

But we don’t require players to complete AMEB grades, so the best way to find out if Concert Band suits is to come along and give us a try!

Which instruments can I play?
